After reading more on the tragedy of Megan that happened last year, I decided to make a blog for people to post and voice their Memory’s of her or well wishes to her family and friends.
There will be no personal address’s/phone #’s posted, no name calling, and whether you like someone or not, at least show some respect please. Comments are moderated and those that contain anything against the rules will not be posted.

On Wednesday, October 21st, city officials wasted no time enacting an ordinance designed to address the public outcry for justice in the Megan Meier tragedy. The six member Board of Aldermen made Internet harassment a misdemeanor, punishable by up to a $500 fine and 90 days in jail.
Does this new law provide any justice for Megan? Does this law provide equitable relief for a future victim?
The Vice rejects the premise of this new law and believes it completely misses the mark. Classifying this case as a harassment issue completely fails to address the most serious aspects of the methods Lori Drew employed to lead this youth to her demise. The Vice disagrees that harassment was even a factor in this case until just a couple of days before Megan’s death.
Considering this case a harassment issue is incorrect because during the 5 weeks Lori Drew baited and groomed her victim, the attention was NOT unwanted attention. Megan participated in the conversations willingly because she was misled, lured, manipulated and exploited without her knowledge.
This law willfully sets a precedent that future child exploiters and predators might use to reclassify their cases as harassment cases. In effect, the law enacted to give Megan justice, may make her even more vulnerable. So long as the child victim doesn’t tell the predator to stop, even a harassment charge may not stick with the right circumstances and a good defender.
Every aspect of this case follows the same procedural requirement used to convict a Child Predator. A child was manipulated by an adult. A child was engaged in sexually explicit conversation (as acknowledged by Lori Drew herself). An adult imposed her will on a child by misleading her, using a profile designed to sexually or intimately attract the 13 year old Megan.
Lori then utilized the power she had gained over this child to cause significant distress and endangerment to that child. She even stipulated to many of these activities in the police report she filed shortly after Megan’s death.
City officials who continue to ignore this viable, documented admission and continue to address this issue as harassment are intentionally burying their heads in the sand, when the solution is staring them right in the face. Why?
There are several other child exploitation laws on the books. To date, none of them have even been considered by City, State and Federal officials in this case. The Vice is outraged that a motion was never even filed, so that the case could at least be argued before a judge or jury.

The concept that no existing law could have been used to at least have this reviewed by a grand jury is unbelievable.
I am wondering as to whether this case will be used to forward new legislation that will further infringe on personal privacy rights that have already been seriously eroded.
The idea of authorities denying the Meiers and the public an open trial, and then further using this incident to advance an alternative agenda is atrocious.

Sending lots of positive thoughts to the Meier family. I can’t fathom the thought of losing a child – let alone to something like this.
It is just unthinkable that an adult constructed this plan of childish behavior to deliberately deceive and humiliate a teenager. Teenagers have enough problems just fitting in and feeling loved among their peers.
Justice certainly did not prevail in this case but hopefully her conscience does…

While the Megan Meier case seems outrageous and unique, it isn’t unique. Hundreds of cases of egregious and heinous acts go on every day with the same excuses out of our lawmakers.
One such other case….The case of Nikki Catsouras, is a classic example of disgusting, hateful activity against innocent victims, while our lawmakers excuse themselves from enacting laws to prevent this.
The excuse lawmakers use to let themselves off the hook stem from the growth of the Internet and how fast it’s changing. This is a sham.
Chat rooms, message boards, instant messengers and email have been in existence for far over a decade now. While the software used to transmit messages changes slightly, the basic essence of using the Internet to send a message is largely the same. Is a decade or two long enough to establish some basic decency laws in regards to Internet usage?
I’ve posted the Nikki Catsouras story along with many details about the Megan Meier case so the inactivity out of our lawmakers towards these types of cases can be clearly seen.
Those who are interested in learning about cases like Megan’s and Nikki’s case are encouraged to drop by and comment on them if you like. I have a couple of polls set up as well. Danny Vice would like to hear your point of view.
Public awareness of the problem and discussions about possible solutions are the best way to pressure elected officials into action instead of excuse making.

I don’t believe US law enforcement when they insist there isn’t much that can be done. Sadly, Just traveling through your country can get one arrested without just cause and held in jail Indefinitely.

I’m checking a few times every day to see if there are any developments. I hope the Meiers are doing OK. Are they still separated? Unfortunately, separation/divorce is very common after the death of a child. I hope both of them have good support systems. It seems to me that I read somewhere that they have a younger daughter. Christmas can be a difficult time when there has been such a terrible loss.

I only posted what I did in the hitusa for *Tom* to read.I ignore some of the others. He seems to be believing JUST what Lori’s lawyer says she has to say.
As for the Meiers divorcing I heard that too, but not sure if it is gossip online or if it is true.If True, I truly hope they rethink that and think about how hard it was for them to *keep Silent* for so long. Parents deal with death differant ways and on top of having to deal with the death of Megan, they had to be silent on what chain of events she killed herself for, thus only having each other, i am sure tensions were high and the only people the anger could be shown was on each other.
I hope that they step back,pause, look at the situation and take things slow before getting the divorce. I am sure both have had alot taken off their shoulders once the story came public.
As for them moving, I read that Mrs Meier and their younger daughter are staying with her family and Ron has been staying away from the home due to the vandalism on the Drews home. He doesn’t want to be accused of being the one vandalising the home.
If the Meiers are reading this, I do hope they at least think of what I have said before divorce (If it is true). Someone on hitusa who was a professional, said the exact same thing I have but they said more.

I heard the Meiers say they were divorcing in an interview. They even had restraining orders taken out on each other. Can you imagine how tortured they must be? At least they are presenting a united front now. Maybe working together on this can heal their relationship. As much as I hate to admit it, if this happened to either of my daughters I’m afraid that everything else, including my marriage, would be taking a back burner to either avenging her death or honoring her memory. In the end though, I wouldn’t give LD the control or satisfaction of ripping apart my family more than she already has.

i just want to say when i read the story in the newspaper i was disgusted and hurt that people can be so horrible i am 15 i want to help megans foundation as much as i can i am out of school and i get paid minimum wage but i take a third out and give to charity and i want to do more to help
